Magnetic Centrifugal Pumps
MAGSON magnetic centrifugal pumps deliver highly corrosive fluids with a hermetically sealed design. Magnetic coupling instead of a shaft seal, zero leakage, maintenance-free.

Products
Overview
MAGSON magnetic centrifugal pumps handle highly corrosive fluids without a shaft seal—a drive magnet transmits the motor’s power to the impeller without physical contact. The pump chamber and drive are hermetically sealed off by a can. Eight variants made of plastic (PP, ETFE, PVDF), stainless steel, and plastic-lined cast iron cover flow rates up to 2,000 l/min.

Technology

Knowledge and Technology
Selecting the right MAGSON magnetic drive centrifugal pump depends on the fluid, pressure, temperature, and material requirements. The following sections explain the principle of magnetic coupling and compare the eight variants.
Operating Principle
Seal-less Magnetic Centrifugal Pumps: Reliable Pumping Without a Shaft Seal
In conventional centrifugal pumps, the shaft seal is a critical component. Maintenance requirements increase, particularly with highly aggressive or crystallizing fluids. At the same time, system availability decreases.
MAGSON magnetic centrifugal pumps operate seal-less and with a magnetic coupling. The outer rotating drive magnet transmits the motor’s power contactlessly to the inner magnet, which drives the impeller.
A through-shaft is not required. This also eliminates the need for a shaft seal to the motor. The pump chamber and drive are hermetically sealed off from each other by a gap ring.
The benefits: no leakage through a shaft seal, reduced maintenance, and greater safety when handling critical fluids.

The maximum flow rate is a test bench value, measured with water at 20 °C at the pump’s discharge port, without accessories (hose, dispensing nozzle, flow meter). The flow rate that can be achieved in practice is lower and depends on the specific application, the properties of the fluid, and the pump configuration. Specifications are for an axial rotor, unless otherwise stated.

Operating Principle of the MAGSON MAS

Step 1
Special Advantages of the MAS

Step 2
1. Before Start-Up
The housing with integrated suction chamber consists of several chambers. Before initial commissioning, the MAGSON MAS must be filled with liquid once.

Step 3
2. Priming
The impeller and suction chambers are designed to evacuate air, enabling the safe pumping of a two-phase mixture of liquid and air. A sufficient amount of liquid always remains in the lower housing chamber to lubricate and cool the impeller and bearings.

Step 4
3. Pumping Operation
During pumping operation, the MAGSON MAS functions like the MA series as a sealless, magnetically coupled centrifugal pump. Just as reliable, just as efficient.

Step 5
4. Stop
When the pump is switched off, the medium flows back through the suction line toward the tank. The special arrangement of the internal chambers ensures that sufficient liquid remains inside the pump housing and that the suction chamber does not run empty. This unique process operates without the need for valves.

Motors and accessories
Design of PP/ETFE Magnetic Centrifugal Pumps for Aggressive Media
MAGSON MA and MAS models are designed for aggressive, corrosive, and crystallizing media. The PP and ETFE materials allow for use with acids, alkalis, and chemically demanding liquids.
The seal-less design protects the process from leaks. At the same time, it reduces maintenance requirements since there is no dynamic shaft seal subject to wear.
The MAGSON MA model with normal suction is suitable for many stationary applications. The self-priming MAGSON MAS is used when the pump is installed above the liquid level.
This is particularly relevant for double-walled tanks, where toxic or environmentally hazardous media often need to be pumped from above.
Suitable for:
- highly corrosive acids
- alkalis
- degreasing baths
- chemically demanding liquids
- crystallizing media
- Toxic or environmentally hazardous media from double-walled tanks

Design of Stainless Steel Magnetic Centrifugal Pumps for Pressure and Temperature
MAGSON MML is used when plastic reaches its technical limits. This applies primarily to applications involving higher pressures, higher temperatures, or special chemical requirements.
The metal version also operates seal-less and with a magnetic coupling. Here, too, the stator hermetically separates the pump chamber from the drive.
Stainless steel is available as standard. Other metallic materials, such as Hastelloy or titanium, are available for specific media and process conditions.
This allows the pump to be adapted to demanding applications without compromising the seal-less operating principle.
Suitable for:
- corrosive media at higher temperatures
- media at elevated pressures
- Applications where plastic is not suitable
- chemically demanding liquids
- Special media with specific material requirements

Self-priming, safe, powerful – MAGSON MAS
Environmentally harmful or corrosive fluids are often stored in double-walled tanks. Connecting a non-self-priming centrifugal pump at the bottom of the tank requires extensive safety measures due to the increased risk of leakage.
The MAGSON MAS offers a safe and economical alternative here. As a self-priming, magnetically coupled centrifugal pump, it can draw fluids from the bottom and pump them upward using the integrated suction chamber.
Thanks to its limited dry-running capability, it is also suitable for emptying tanks almost completely.
